Parent Lifeline
Parents – Are you facing a difficult decision to make about your child’s career path in the arts? Have questions for which you feel you lack important context, perspective, or knowledge? Don’t have a trusted advocate in the business to help you navigate key situations in an industry?
This is your 30-minute lifeline to get professional perspective from a former child performer turned Broadway professional who’s first and foremost concern is always the well-being of budding young artists like your child. CorBen started his professional training in the arts when he was only 10 and has spent the past 20 years navigating this profession as both a child and now professional. As a former Councilor for Actor’s Equity (the union for theater performers), teacher, talent coach, and creator of Business Literacy for The Arts, CorBen is uniquely positioned to provide you answers, context, resources, and an empathetic outlet to share your biggest concerns about the well being of your child.
Topics most commonly asked of CorBen by parents:
-Training Costs – Where do we best invest limited funds in training and resume materials? What’s critical, important, or just nice to have?
-Contracts – What’s reasonable, appropriate, and in the best interest of my young artist?
-Agents – When should we seek professional representation and how does that all work? What are some yellow or red flags that suggest a potential agent isn’t a good fit for us?
-Mental Health - How do I help my young artist handle constant rejection and criticism? How can we build emotional resilience in auditions?
-Burn-out. How do we navigate increasing demands on our young artist and family as things get more serious? There are so many needs competing for our time – which ones are most important?
